WALT identify the author and the illustrator in the text.

WALT identify the author and the illustrator in the text.

Room 4 has been using all of our reading skills this year, ready for Year 2. Every week we have a new 'test'
about different parts of the book. We have been searching for full stops, exclamation marks, question marks
and commas. This week we are focusing on finding the author and the illustrator. We all had a turn to come up
and point to where the authors name is. Miss Donnell tried to trick some of us and changed the pages!

'I know the author is the writer of the story and they do the words.'

WALT read for meaning

WALT read for meaning.

One of our stories this week was about things we like to do. We talked about some of the things we liked to do and school. Some of the things were in the book too! This helps us to relate to the stories we read.

'There are so many things I like to do at school. I have lots of friends.'

Recognising Sight Words

We are learning to recognise the magenta sight words.

In Reading nga tamariki have been making great progress pointing to each word and using the pictures to help them read a sentence.  Each week we have a new "word of the week" and students do their best to identify that word in their book.

"It was easy finding the word "are" because I could spot it", said Kimberly.

I am learning that illustrations help me read the story

In Reading we have been learning that the illustrations help us to read the story.  If I am unsure of a word I can look at the picture and it can help me.

"When I see a tricky word I try and try", said Kimberly.
